JOINED UP FOOD ENDS WITH A BANG AT THE CUMBERLAND HOTEL LONDON

The Paddington Development Trust’s, Westminster Enterprise Centre, Joined Up Food project funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland and the City of Westminster went out with a bang on Saturday evening, 28th March when it held a dazzling awards event showcasing some of the best of the food entrepreneurs discovered and incubated by Westminster Enterprise Centre over the last 15 months.  As food and fashion are the ingredients, which make a perfect recipe, the evening’s theme was ‘Food Meets Fashion’ and entertainment was provided by a lively fashion show, produced by Chanel Edwards of Compliment Me, which was opened by an electric modern dance troop.

The food entrepreneurs set up stands in the foyer and greeted guests as they came to the charity event who enjoyed delicious samples of their unusual foods.  Examples included Mary Albert (Royel La Raye): West Indian salt fish nibbles & patties, Carol Evans (carolevanscakes): Jimmy Choo Cake, Vicky Edwards (Vickys Donuts): Doughnuts, Ola Coker (Ola’s Apron): Chilli Sauce with savoury nibbles, Saida Bairak (MedleyMoreSauces): Dipping sauces with savoury nibbles, Leanne Allen (Esther’s Cakes): cupcakes, Ishwariya Rajamdhan (Orange by Design Ltd): Baked Bread delights, Nidha Sharma (NS Foods): Toast with Tasty toppings (90 degree melt) Shahida Lorente (VIVA ACAI): Healthy Berry Juice.

Leanne Allen won the top food award with her wonderfully crazy cupcakes but strong contenders in the taste stakes were the completely different chili sauce from Ola’s Apron, which has a long slow cooked flavour, Saida Bairak’s Medley More dipping sauces which burst on the tongue with a tingle of chilli and mint, the delightful bite sized mini donuts from Vickys Donuts and in case one felt as if they had overdone it on the cake department a healthy but yummy, Viva Acai, a healthy berry juice.

The food tastings were organised by Maria Stammers Curran, senior business advisor and Kim Sadler, consultants at PDT Westminster Enterprise Centre.  “We are sorry the year has ended” they say. “We have discovered so many talented women who have created businesses in many of the London boroughs which will lead to growth, vibrancy and with our continued guidance, job creation.
